RH Systems 973-SF6: Humidity & Purity Testing for Gas-Insulated Switchgear
ProgUSA distributes the RH Systems 973-SF6 Analyzer with full U.S.-based support, training, and service. The 973-SF6 measures humidity and SF6 purity in gas-insulated switchgear, and its precision has earned it a reputation as "The Argument Settler," the instrument utilities turn to when they need to confirm whether readings from other analyzers are correct.
For utilities maintaining SF6-insulated equipment, gas condition is a direct indicator of asset health. Rising moisture is an early warning of problems that, left unchecked, lead to corrosive byproducts and costly repairs.
Chilled Mirror Technology
The 973-SF6 is built around chilled mirror condensation technology. A polished mirror surface is cooled until condensation forms, and that condensation temperature is measured directly. Because it relies on a fundamental physical principle rather than a humidity sensor, the measurement does not drift over time the way sensor-based instruments do, which means less frequent calibration and dependable long-term accuracy.
The analyzer presents humidity in ppmv, ppmw, and dew/frost point, at either system pressure or standard pressure, with SF6 purity displayed directly as percent volume SF6 to ±0.5%. Dew point accuracy of ±0.5°C is roughly four times tighter than the accuracy typical of sensor-based SF6 analyzers. An optional module adds SO2 measurement, giving crews an additional indicator of decomposition inside the equipment.
Zero-Loss Gas Recovery
The 973-SF6 includes an integrated gas containment and recovery system. During measurement, the analyzer draws the sample from the compartment into an internal storage cylinder, then pumps it back into the original compartment once the test is complete, with no venting to atmosphere. Starting and ending pressures are recorded for full gas management.
With a completely sealed, high-pressure gas path, the result is a zero-loss measurement that conserves SF6 and minimizes environmental impact.
Built for the Field
Calibration can be checked at any time with the built-in Ice Test function, which provides instant pass/fail verification of system accuracy and integrity, no external reference required.
Operation is handled through a full-color touchscreen, configurable for humidity, SF6 purity, or both, with automatic or manually initiated pump back. A bidirectional RS-232 port transfers measurement data to a PC for storage and reporting. The analyzer ships ready to use with industry-standard quick-connect fittings and sample tubing.
ProgUSA Support
ProgUSA has supplied electrical test and measurement equipment to utilities, NETA firms, and industrial users since 2005. ProgUSA represents RH Systems throughout the United States.
Equipment Selection
We help utilities match the 973-SF6 to their SF6 equipment and testing program. Universal adapter kits are available to fit a range of switchgear connections.
Training
We provide training on measurement procedures, calibration checks, and reporting.
U.S.-Based Service
Calibration and repair are handled at the RH Systems NVLAP-accredited laboratory in Gilbert, Arizona.
Demonstrations
On-site demonstrations let crews evaluate the 973-SF6 with their own switchgear.
