Acoustic Air Leak Detection
Find the leaks running your compressors. Most facilities lose 20–30% of their compressed air to leaks. Lost air makes compressors run longer and cycle harder, so the power bill goes up and the equipment wears out sooner. The leaks are usually small, hidden, and easy to miss in a noisy plant, until an acoustic air leak detection survey finds them.
Why ProgUSA for acoustic air leak detection
ProgUSA has supplied electrical test and diagnostic equipment to utilities, NETA firms and industrial plants since 2005. We carry acoustic imaging from FOTRIC, UV corona cameras from UViRCO, and SF6 leak detection from Synecom. Our acoustic air leak detection surveys use that same equipment, and the people running them know how it works. See the imaging equipment.
What acoustic air leak detection finds
Compressed air leaks at fittings, hoses, quick-connects, valves, drains and abandoned drops.
Specialty gas leaks on nitrogen, argon and oxygen lines.
SF6 leaks on breakers and gas-insulated switchgear, where a small loss turns into an EPA reporting problem.
Steam leaks that waste energy and go unnoticed.

What you receive
An on-site acoustic air leak detection scan of your system
A tag and photo record for each leak
A leak location map
Severity ranking and estimated annual dollar loss per leak
A compressor load and runtime review
A written report with repairs ranked by payback
The result
In one facility, fixing common compressed air leaks saved more than $130,000 a year in energy.
Most plants find real hidden losses on their first survey, and fixing what's found pays back right away and can be measured.

Partial discharge: the failures heat won't show you
Many electrical failures start as small discharge events inside insulation, switchgear, cable terminations and medium voltage components. They often don't show up on a thermal scan yet. Ultrasonic and partial discharge testing finds them early, so they can be fixed before the equipment fails.
Worth testing when you have:
Switchgear or medium voltage equipment in service 10+ years
Unknown insulation condition
Recurring nuisance trips
A preventive maintenance program to build out
A major load increase coming
How it fits
ProgUSA Power Quality Services offers acoustic air leak detection and partial discharge surveys as an add-on to our equipment programs. If you'd rather run surveys in-house, we'll set you up with the instrument, the training and the calibration support to do it.
What are your air leaks costing you?
Send us your compressor size and run hours, and we'll estimate what leaks are likely costing you before we schedule a visit.
